The Role of the Guidance Counsellor

The Guidance Counsellor is a member of the student services team.  They work to support students, parents, and staff and can assist with:

  • developing strategies to understand and cope with social, emotional, and behaviour needs
  • work with students individually, in small groups, or in a classroom setting
  • collaborate with teachers and support services to support student learning
  • work with parents to support their child's learning needs, styles, and resources

There are a lot of things in life that can make us feel upset; things like:

  • other kids picking on you
  • having trouble learning
  • losing someone you care about
  • friends moving away
  • someone you care about getting sick or hurt
  • something happening that doesn't feel right
  • changes in your family
